How to File a Windshield Insurance Claim in Texas

Texas law requires insurers to waive the deductible for windshield repairs. Here's how to use your coverage without spending a dime.

What Texas Law Says

Texas Insurance Code Section 1952.308 requires insurance companies to waive the deductible for windshield repairs (not full replacements). That means if your chip or crack qualifies for repair, your out-of-pocket cost is $0 — regardless of your deductible.

For full windshield replacement, your standard comprehensive deductible applies. If your deductible is $250, you pay $250 toward the replacement cost.

Step-by-Step: Filing Your Claim

Step 1: Check Your Coverage

Windshield coverage falls under comprehensive auto insurance — not collision. Before filing, confirm you have comprehensive coverage on the damaged vehicle. You can find this on your insurance card or policy documents, or call your agent.

Step 2: Call AutoGlass Rehab First

Many insurance companies will try to direct you to their preferred shop network. In Texas, you have the legal right to choose your own auto glass provider. Call us at (469) 790-2619 and we'll handle the rest — including calling your insurer on your behalf.

Step 3: We File the Claim

AutoGlass Rehab has direct billing relationships with all major insurers — State Farm, Progressive, Geico, Allstate, USAA, Farmers, Liberty Mutual, and more. We submit the claim, get authorization, and schedule your service. You sign the assignment of benefits form and we handle everything else.

Step 4: Service Comes to You

A certified technician arrives at your home, office, or any DFW location. Repair takes 20–40 minutes. Replacement takes 60–90 minutes. You drive away the same day.

Step 5: We Collect From Your Insurer

You owe nothing beyond your deductible (or $0 for repairs). We bill your insurance company directly and collect payment from them.

Will Filing a Claim Raise My Rates?

In most cases, no. Comprehensive glass claims are generally not considered an "at-fault" incident and have little to no impact on your premium. However, policies vary — confirm with your specific insurer if this is a concern.

What If I Don't Have Comprehensive Coverage?

No comprehensive coverage? You can still get service — you'll just pay out of pocket. AutoGlass Rehab offers competitive rates and will always give you a transparent quote upfront. Call (469) 790-2619 for pricing.
